Your # 1 responsibility as a presenter

Despite all the stage-time under your belt, your number one responsibility as a presenter or a speaker is to share content that is valuable and makes people’s lives better.

It’s sad to see experienced speakers deliver content that is a “meaningless” at best. You can’t fool the audience with a fancy speech title anymore. A mature audience will always sniff out a mediocre attempt at “winging it!”

If a presentation starts with a BIG promise (the fancy title), the presenter ought to keep it. Particularly with an audience that admires and respects you. Not doing so is like taking them for a ride.

Here’s a quick check to see if the content you are about to deliver makes sense: share the foundational phrase with someone whom you recently met. If you get a “so what?” or worse “what’s the point?” reaction, it’s time to take a step back and reflect on the core purpose and the driving point you are trying to make.

Don’t ever underestimate the value of questioning your content. Strive to give the audience something valuable. Otherwise, your speech is worthless to them.

That my friend is your #1 responsibility as a speaker.

Am I making any sense?
