Confession: I’m not a Bollywood fan. And I don’t want to get into the details right now. I am, however, grossly amused by the mob’s reaction to the movie Padmaavat.
Riots, blockades, vandalism over a movie that’s nothing more than an entertaining movie for the vast majority of Indians.
There’s absolutely no logic behind Karni Sena‘s actions. Their reasons are their reasons. It’s not something the general public understands or will be able to resonate with. And as a free country, I think we have the right to have no political/religious organization thrust their agendas onto us or influence our choices or our lives.
Yet, there they are. Doing what they know the best. Disrupting the whole nation for a three-hour movie. To be blunt — that’s stupid.
I want to understand how this movie will affect the lives of the Rajputs? How will it tarnish our heritage? Do they know if a genre called “historical fiction” exist?
I guess there’s more to come in the next few days. But the world’s watching us right now. And we’re demonstrating how stupid/insane people can get when we make a mountain out of a molehill.
My advice is twofold:
- Get a job, folks! There are better things to do in life.
- Having the money and riches wouldn’t make you educated… or make you act like one. Get an education. The world is bigger than our tiny minds.
