Aren’t we all fascinated by our heroes? I know I am. But what’s more astounding (and somewhat reassuring) is that none of our heroes started out the way they are right now.
It’s almost unfair to compare ourselves with the stalwarts of the business world. Particularly if you’re just starting out. It’s easy to forget that they’ve put in the time and effort to master themselves and become who they are.
Can you imagine the pressure you’re putting yourself into? By comparing yourself to the likes of Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk or Jerry Seinfeld… you surely risk setting yourself to fail. And of course, missing the point (besides being slightly disillusioned — but let’s not go there).
Here’s an idea — instead of modeling yourself after these greats, why not take inspiration from them and find your true self? You’re much more likely to achieve success finding yourself than following a path that’s surely not your own.
And whats more? Your heroes were just like you when they started… they became something else because they were focused, committed and kept pushing themselves to discover their true self and hence, their true potential.
A common theme you’ll find among these “heroes” is that they keep pushing the envelope. In fact, they never stop doing that. It could be their DNA or sheer tenacity to push their limits and see what they can achieve.
It sure is time-consuming, but it’s the shortest way to master anything.
