That’s the best way I would like to put it. But I was to be honest, I’m just irritated.
My dermatologist confirmed a sebaceous cyst in my upper/middle back. Though it’s been there since April this year, I wasn’t overly worried since it didn’t bother me much. Perhaps we had an understanding. Something went wrong this past week as I begun to experience inflammation around that area. So, I decided to give the doc a visit.
My first question: how many days would I be out of action?
Him: What do you mean by that?
Me: Well, I don’t want to miss out my training days. How long will it be before I can get back to the gym?
Him: 5-7 days tops.
Me: Oh, that’s it? Cool!
Him: What do you mean by that?
Me: Well, for now. I’ll just take the meds and see if this improves in the next 5 days. If it doesn’t, we’ll get it extracted. If it does, I’ll wait for a couple of weeks before I do so.
Him: Alright, why wait?
Me: I’m focusing on an important project right now and would rather get it done with than disrupt the flow.
Him: Alright. Your wish!
The important project… was my powerlifting cycle. I just didn’t want anything coming in the way of my PRs. And I realized, how obsessed I’ve become! The damn life revolves around the gym and training cycles!
Anyway, I waited until last evening to take the meds (after my training, of course!). And for some reason, I could barely sleep a wink! The pain was intolerable. I kept tossing and turning until 5:30 this morning. I even booked an appointment with the doctor to get this damn thing extracted! Notified my colleagues about my condition and thankfully, somehow, I dozed off. Woke up at 7:30 and I was back to normal.
But I missed my workout! Damn!
It’s 7:05 in the evening and I can feel the pain again. The next few days are going to be hell. And regardless of whether I get this extracted soon enough, I’ve learned one major lesson: when it comes to your priorities and pain, choose the latter first. Always.
