A very short guide for breaking addictions to social media apps

I’m not a registered psychiatrist but what I’m going to prescribe here wouldn’t kill you. Or perhaps, it would. But you sure won’t have to consult a doctor before trying this.

Here you go:

  1. Delete all social apps from your phone. Every thing! If your job requires you to be on top of social media all day, you definitely should try this. Why? Because you deserve a break. There’s a world outside your pixelated “social” life.
  2. Schedule your own happy hours each night. Put a timer next to you and set it to go off at 30 or 45 minutes. You need that much time if you’re doing it “seriously.” If it’s just another “thing” schedule 15 minutes and be done with it. Ask your dad or girlfriend or spouse to kick you off the chair or the phone. They’d love it!
  3. There’s no such thing as “catching up” on social media. You’ll always be catching up.

That’s it! It’s short and sweet. But hard to practice. For credibility’s sake, the only social app that I have on my phone is the WordPress app. So that I can post content when I’m on the go (like right now).

And I don’t spent more than 10 minutes a day on social. Despite being a marketer.
