Teach them all that you were never taught

“Instead of buying your children all the things you never had, you should teach them all the things you were never taught. Material wears out but knowledge stays.”

Bruce Lee

Spending time with your kids is the most important investments you’re going to make. Some people say it’s ‘non-negotiable,’ but I think it is very much negotiable. I’ve been guilty of it myself — bring them ‘stuff’ that gives me and them temporary joy.

No, I haven’t transformed into that father who spends loads of time with his kids. Far from it. But I’m getting there. Slowly.

What I’ve realised is that the fancy toys, sweets, and gadgets don’t have an ounce of influence in their lives compared to the memories I create by spending quality time with them. It’s also the only way I could ever teach them the things I wasn’t taught. Helping them gain wisdom and knowledge I wish I had when I was growing up.

I’m only glad that it’s never too late. We can start doing this right now.
