I do it

If you’re not equipping your people, you’re not leading. Nor would you be able to harness your potential as a leader or hope to become a transformational leader. You see, the essence of all transformations is equipping.

The alternative is to do what most leaders don’t do often — learn how to equip others. others. Research, study, and come up with a process that will help you train and equip others. Yes, it’s hard work but in order to transform others you must start with yourself! You cannot give what you don’t have.

And how do you get started? With this simple (but not easy) five-step process by John Maxwell that I fell in love with. It goes like this:

  1. I do it
  2. I do it, and you are with me.
  3. You do it, and I am with you.
  4. You do it
  5. You do it, and someone is with you

Too basic for your liking? Well, it could be. But it sure does work. Most importantly, the process helps you change first before helping others to change. That’s the first step towards transformational change. And that’s how you help multiply leadership and build a pipeline within an organisation or a community.

As leaders, you and I have to be changed to bring change. We teach what we know, but we reproduce who we are.
