Is it really worth it?

Of all the questions that solopreneurs, independent consultants, coaches, and bootstrappers get asked, the most frequently asked is this — is all even worth it? Here, the “it” that people refer to is the struggle and uncertainty of choosing a lifestyle that isn’t the norm. This means they might ask you the same question if you’re unconventional or go against the tide as an employee, manager, or leader at the workplace.

So, what’s the answer? Frankly, I don’t know, nor do I care. Knowing the answer isn’t as important as knowing where you’re headed. And for the most part, charting a different path isn’t the end, but simply a means to an end, which is much bigger than the person and the question.

A couple of months back, while journaling, I reflected if the efforts that I’m putting into growing my coaching practice is worth it at all. I realized that it was! Why? Because coaching is simply a means to an end. Just like this blog or my podcast or the courses that I create. And what’s that end?

To leave this world better than I found it.

I know that sounds cliched, and if you’ve been following this blog for any time, you know that I don’t know much about legacies. I still believe so. But if I care at all about how I wish to be remembered, it will be for the value I created for others and the lives I helped transform through my work and words.

So, for me, it’s worth every second that I live.

What about you?
